Blog # 4 Learning to Learn

Image
In chapter 3, the author talks about how professors shouldn't be focused on traditional professional development and instead be more invested in becoming an actual connected learner. The formal way of learning has changed and to be a great learner, you have to get out of the classroom and into a connected environment where you can teach and learn things from your own experiences.  A key point in this chapter was the concept of unlearning and relearning. There are new ideas and new facts being discovered every day, and the only way to form your own sense of knowledge is to forget old ideas you know and form an even greater idea. As well as this, another point was to seek opportunities and gain experience where you can connect and learn from real-world experiences. Being able to actually learn something on your own rather than be taught, will you give you long-term knowledge that will actually stay with you. This connects to my future career in event planning dir...

Web Tool Smack Down

Presentation-  Presentation Slides -                   For my webtool smackdown, I decided to choose Wix. Wix is a digital tool that is mainly used for marketing and advertising. It allows you to create your own website without having to know how to code or be tech savvy. You can create things such as blogs, personal or business websites, restaurant menu, advertisements, and so on. Wix is free and requires you to just make an account. You chose a template, then edit the template to your liking by changing words, photos, etc.      I’ve used wix in the past for past projects. I believe it’s a great tool that not many people are familiar with but should be because of how easy it is to use. For my career in event planning specifically, I think wix would be super beneficial to use. I will need to have my own website that can be viewed to get my work out there. Wix would be an easy tool for me to do that. I’ll be ab...

Technology Blog #3 Developing a Connected Learning Model

Image
In Chapter 5, we learned about different digital tools that can help you create a digital presence/community. With the features that we learned about such as bookmarking, podcasts, blogs, etc., we'll be able to connect more efficiently and become better at staying connected digitally. Learning these features is key to developing that said community, because using these tools the correct way will result in being able to fully obtain the knowledge that is given.  In particularly, podcasts are super beneficial for someone who is eager to learn or hear about something and wants to be able to have their own thoughts throughout what is being said. Podcasts give opinions and facts, and creates an open environment where people are able to connect on different levels. It's also sometimes easier to hear someone talk out loud to obtain knowledge. For example, sometimes when I'm going through something and I get in my car, I'll listen to a podcast about someone going through somet...

Building Your Connected Learning Community Blog #2

Image
In Chapter Six, we learned about how building connections through apps like Twitter, is crucial to building your online presence, but also useful when it comes to building connections/networking with others online. An important quote that stood out to me in this chapter, was on page 100 where it said, "Shift occur from what you know to who you know from who you know to what who you know, knows. The value is in understanding how to tap into and leverage others' knowledge and experience once you figure out what fellow community members know." I 100% believe that having connections pertaining to your education, your interests, or your career, makes you gain new experiences, and learn more than you might already know.     When it comes to my career path in Event Planning, knowing and having connections in my field is very important. I have to know people who have planned many events, owns a particular venue, has other connections that they could get me c...

app smack down

slides app smackdown   For my App Smackdown, I chose the app Facebook. Facebook is a social media app that is used mainly to share photos/videos with people you have as a friend. While this app is mainly used for this, it also has many other features. You can sell and buy almost anything you can think of sort of like a huge garage sale where everyone sells everything to each other. You can also create your own advertisements that will show up on other peoples feed depending on their interests. As well as buy tickets to a concert, book a reservation for any type of business you're interested in going to, and sign up for different groups.  With my career path being event planning, Facebook will definitely be a tool that I will use often. When it comes to planning events, a lot of marketing goes into making those events possible. People need to see advertisements to become familiar with the event and be influenced to go. On Facebook, you can create ads and collect income from the...
